All existing options available to help children attend, participate and engage with their Hearings should remain in place.

New options should also be made available, as suggested by:

  • emerging research,
  • evidence,
  • shared learning from other tribunals, and
  • shared learning from ongoing improvement work.

Mechanisms for understanding Hearings when a child doesn’t attend

If a child does not wish to attend their Hearing, there must be clear mechanisms in place to:

  • help the child understand what was discussed at the Hearing, and
  • help the child understand what decisions were made.
