A Review Hearing should be seen as an opportunity for a full and frank discussion— alongside the child and family, and with the benefit of an independent Chair.
It shouldn’t be a place for adversarial proceedings. Review Hearings should be characterised by curiosity into what has gone wrong and what is needed to change.
In an inquisitorial system, the Review Hearing should be the place for an open and honest inquiry into:
- what progress has been made,
- the strengths of the family lie, and
- what challenges there might have been in meeting the terms of the order.
