Statement: The Promise Scotland response to Chief Social Workers Statement
Fraser McKinlay, chief executive of The Promise Scotland has written in response to the statement from all 32 of Scotland's chief social workers, which warns of an emergency in availability of alternative care options for children.
Mr McKinlay said: “The Promise Scotland recognises the seriousness of the concerns raised by Scotland’s Chief Social Work Officers, and the very real pressures being experienced by children, families, carers, social workers and the wider workforce across Scotland’s care system.
“The examples shared are deeply concerning and they should worry us all. These are not abstract 'system pressures', they describe babies, children and young people not being able to access the care, support and relationships they need when they cannot remain safely at home.
“The circumstances described make the need for partnership work to keep the promise more urgent.
“The Promise Scotland has been and will continue to work with all partners to ensure that urgent action is taken in a way that keeps children’s needs, rights and relationships at the centre.”
