Care Learning Collaboratives
Part of: Collaborating and networking
The First Care Collaborative
The First Care Collaborative featured presentations from the organisations listed below.
Presentations
Highland Council
Highland Council presented on shifting spending from out-of-area care to care services within Highland itself— a programme of work which has avoided costs of over £21 million.
Barnardos
Barnardos presented on their Mockingbird constellations, which provide an ‘extended family’ support network to children and young people. These networks reduce transitions and help provide stability in children and young people’s relationships.
Relationships are foundational to this approach, where a hub aims to build strong relationships which offer care and support from a range of role models.
Asylum and Refugee Care (AARC)
AARC presented on the support they offer to those in the UK seeking asylum. They highlighted their contribution to Unlocking Support: Age Disputed Young People in Scotland.
Barnardos
In their second presentation, Barnardos highlighted changes and improvements they’ve made to how they help support children and young people to maintain important relationships with family members, friends and staff. These include:
- Providing venues for carers of siblings to meet and build relationships
- Providing resource to transform venues at the heart of local communities into spaces where brothers and sisters can come together and have fun
- Providing a template for maintaining significant relationships : a spidergram to fill out with children and young people to capture the important people in their lives, including contact details
Aberdeen City Council
Aberdeen City Council presented on their Promise Pilot project, developed across two associated school groups. This adopts a whole family approach: asking children, young people and families what they need, then layering supports as required.
Hub for Success
Hub for Success presented on their transitions toolkit, designed for care experienced learners transitioning from:
- S4 into a college course
- S5 into a college course or university
- S6 into a college course or university.
